Emergency Funding Assistance

The Dean of Students Office may be able to assist students who are unable to meet their basic needs due to an urgent, unexpected emergency situation. Assistance for basic needs is restricted to food, housing, transportation, and utilities. Funding is limited up to $500.  

Bobcat Bounty (San Marcos Campus)

The Bobcat Bounty program will resume its regular distribution schedule on Monday, January 27, from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m in the Family and Consumer Science Building room 187. Sign-up is recommended but not required.

The Pantry at TXST Round Rock

The Pantry at TXST Round Rock is a food pantry partnership between Texas State University Round Rock and Central Texas Food Bank. The Pantry is open to students, staff, faculty, and the community. 

Attorney for Students

The Attorney for Students (AFS) provides legal assistance, information and limited scope representation, and can consult with students on issues related to severe winter weather, including understanding tenants' rights, facilitating necessary repairs, and navigating insurance claims. 

Counseling Center

The Counseling Center supports the wellbeing and resiliency of students as they navigate life while enrolled at Texas State University. Services include consultation, crisis response, brief counseling, prevention activities and educational workshops/webinars.  If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, contact the local mental health hotline for San Marcos at 877-466-0660 and for Round Rock at 800-841-1255.

 Community Resources

  • American Red Cross
    The Red Cross provides support to shelters and warming centers open across 5 states (Texas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia). Search for services by zip code. 
  • Austin Disaster Relief Network
    The ADRN offers a faith-based crisis cleanup hotline and assistance in Bastrop, Hays, Travis, Williamson counties, to include Austin and Round Rock. 
  • BR3T - Blanco River Regional Recovery Team
    Housing Stability Services for residents of Hays, Caldwell, Blanco, and Guadalupe County who are currently or at risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability. Contact 512.256.0269 for additional information. 
  • Central Texas Food Bank
    The Central Texas Food Bank provides a network of locations where grocery items and prepared/hot meals are available for pickup in the greater Austin area.
  • Disaster Assistance.gov
    This government website has a questionnaire that matches your unique needs and circumstances to compile a list of resources in the areas of employment, financial need, food, housing (both temporary housing and home repair for homeowners), and legal and medical services.
  • Hays County Area Food Bank
    Qualifying households may receive food assistance from one distribution each week. Mobile pantry distributions do not count as a Hays County Food Bank distribution (i.e., Bobcat Bounty).
  • Hays Informed
    The Hays County Office of Emergency Services site includes a damage assessment survey, registration for disaster assistance from FEMA, and a cleanup hotline.
  • H.O.M.E. Center
    H.O.M.E. Center provides outreach, mitigation, and emergency response in order to reduce homelessness to functional zero in Hays County. 
  • Salvation Army
    Salvation Army services in San Marcos include Disaster Services, Emergency Financial Assistance, Casework Services, and a Food Pantry. Call 512-754-8541 for information. For other locations with extended services, including Emergency Shelter, please visit their website
  • Southside Community Center
    Southside Community Center empowers families and individuals to meet their essential needs including emergency assistance, food, and housing assistance. Dinner is served daily from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m., and will be open as a warming shelter through Wednesday, January 22, 2025 (extended dates for the winter shelter will be posted online).
